Make your own art shirts

1. Draw something.
2. Get a sewing embroidery hoop ($7) and cut some curtain fabric ($6 per yard) to fit.
3. Trace the drawing onto the fabric.
4. Get some Mod Podge ($5 at craft stores).
5. Turn the hoop around and use a small brush to trace the negative areas of the drawing.
6. Use a big brush to fill the larger negative spaces. Let it dry for a day or use a blow dryer to set the Mod Podge.
7. Get a 24x18 board, a brush and some fabric paint.
8. Stretch a shirt over the board, place the design where you want it, and apply fabric paint with large brush.
9. Scrape it with a spatula. Then lift off the hoop...
10. And there you have it. Home-made art shirt.

Story of the Fish

This picture details the process used in making the fish, sans gesture.  I'll detail the process below.

1.)  The hideous sketch.  Enough to know where I want my shadows and lights to go.

2.)  The fleshing out.  Notice that the mouth has changed.  The truth is that it really shouldn't be smiling like that.  I tried to make those angler type fish.  That's what happens when you don't use a reference image.  I do like the smile though

3.)  Basically the final of the image in monochrome.

4.)  Colors and textures are brought together here, though I left the textures out to show how it looks without them.

5.)  The final result.  All the remaining details are here.  Particles, lights, glows and textures.

My 5 Rules for Writing

Writing is magical. For me it's a portal going wherever my mind or heart wants. I love it so much that I majored in it. However the most useful tips I found for writing stemmed from taking art classes, not my writing classes. Maybe this is the reason for my less than acceptable grammar.  But I digress.

Penning to find chaotic flow

For some reason, if I try to sketch something with the un-permanence of a pencil, the image lacks a certain randomness of flow that it would have were it directly done with pen. I would always be erasing pencil sketch marks to gather the effect I had in my head, not thinking that I was erasing all the erratic un-planned things that actually made it more beautiful. So this is me experimenting on that concept of penning to find flow.

If you were wondering about the pencil marks, they were added for accentuating depth after drawing the image in pen.

Xtranormal Shorts

The following videos were made today at Xtranormal.  For those of you unfamiliar with the site, it allows you to make robotic dialogs for two fake characters.  It allows a person to focus on dialog and interaction with the camera, and can be useful if you don't have any friends who are into acting or that live close by.  Simple to use. This was just made in the spirit of fun, nothing really serious.   Hope you all enjoy it.

Pro *clap clap* Pro *clap clap* Procrastination *clap*

I presented the video above as a gift the day before but I didn't work on it as hard as I could have.  I kept putting it off for various reasons.  I'm a procrastinator and a workaholic.  It may not seem obvious but I work very hard trying to avoid work and then actually working when an assignment is close to being due.

The reason for procrastination differs for everyone.  My primary reason that I think too much about the end result.  Basically I set up mental road maps to desired destinations.  It's all fine and dandy until I start thinking about how it is accepted by others, or more accurately my projected image of them.  As the cliché goes, I set myself up for disappointment.  It's something I unintentionally work very hard at so that my anxiety and fears are kept very well fed.

If you'd like to read more about the rut of procrastination and tips on how to get out of it I recommend starting here

The Identity Process

This image is not me.  Though I will admit that I tried to make it realistically resemble me.

Try as I may, no image can catch my amazing amount of splendor. (Note: The contents of the last sentence are nowhere near true and should be taken with many grains of salt.  Huge vats if you have them.)

The truth is that I haven't been able to pass uncanny valley yet.  Whenever it feels like I'm closer to making something look real, the reality only seems to go farther way.  It is a continual conscious process that is equivalent to molding one's identity from a simple gesture to the person you choose to be.
